Magnetic door lock: features and self-installation. How to install a magnetic lock on a glass door? Installing a magnet on a glass door

Personal baths have long ceased to be just a place to keep the body clean. Now these are entire complexes for relaxation with a separate steam room, a room for relaxation and tea drinking, and sometimes with a swimming pool and a terrace with barbecue. Their interior is also changing, becoming more stylish and modern. Glass doors for steam rooms and other interior spaces fit perfectly into this concept.

They are not only beautiful, but also practical. We will talk about their features, advantages and installation method in this article.

A few words about aesthetics

Each of us wants to surround ourselves with beauty, make our personal space stylish, cozy, and non-standard. This is easy to do in a residential building or apartment. Baths, for the most part, are similar to each other in both arrangement and decoration.

Doors for steam rooms made of glass help to add zest to the interior of the bathhouse, let in more light, and expand the space. They look “lighter” and have a huge variety of designs.

Look how interesting these baths look:

Glass doors and partitions are a real salvation for those who suffer from claustrophobia or are simply not in good health. Through them, even if the glass is colored or frosted, you can distinguish silhouettes and, if necessary, come to the rescue.

Types and characteristics of glass doors

A door is a “working” structure with which we are constantly in contact. And in difficult temperature and humidity conditions of the bath, it must be especially durable and reliable. Ordinary glass does not meet these conditions in any way, so for the manufacture of doors only tempered, heat-resistant and thick enough (at least 7-8 mm) is used.

It is difficult to cut and drill, which means you cannot make such a door with your own hands. But this is not necessary, since the choice is huge, and the price is quite affordable - on average 7-10 thousand rubles.

Door leaves

They come in two types:

  • With glass inserts in paneled or timber frames. The glazing area can also be different, ranging from small “windows” to large glass in a frame made of wood or metal.
  • All glass products. That is, without any frame at all. They only have a handle made of wood.

Please note. In any case, special glass is used. Even if it is accidentally broken, it will shatter into many small fragments with blunt edges that are not capable of causing serious cuts.

The appearance of glass depends on how it is processed. It can be white and colored, transparent and matte, with or without a pattern. The drawing is also applied in different ways.

Look at what glass doors to the steam room are like:

Opening method

Depending on the opening method, bath doors can be swing or pendulum. Sliding ones are also not excluded, but due to a loose fit they cannot provide high-quality heat and steam retention.

  • Pendulum and they call doors that can open in any direction - both outward and inward. This is very convenient when your hands are full of buckets of water or you need to carry your child in/out of the steam room. They are attached to the ceiling (or cross beam) and floor, and not to the side jamb (see Glass swing doors: choosing, installing). And in order to keep the canvas in the closed position, the instructions recommend equipping it with a closer.
  • Swing door opens only in one direction and is attached to the side beam of the box using hinges. For safety reasons, it should open from the steam room to the outside.

This is important! In any case, there should be a 5 mm wide gap between the floor or threshold for ventilation and access to fresh air. The rest of the perimeter can be sealed using rubber or silicone gaskets.

Door frame material

There may not be a door frame at all in the bathhouse, and in this case the door is hung in an opening made to size. But still, with a box it looks more aesthetically pleasing. And it is most often made of hardwood or metal profiles.

What is the difference between them:

  • A wooden box is less deformed in low humidity and high temperature saunas.
  • In a Russian steam room, the temperature is lower, but the humidity is high, and the tree swells in such conditions, changing the geometry of the box. Therefore, it is better to install a metal box here.

Dimensions

To minimize heat loss, the size of the door to the steam room is made smaller than usual. Rarely does its height reach 2 meters and its width 80 cm. As a rule, canvas with such parameters is made to order.

The standard sizes are:

Glass door fittings

Despite its apparent lightness, glass is a rather heavy material. To ensure that the door does not sag and opens easily, special hinges are needed. Plus, they must withstand sudden fluctuations in temperature and humidity. Therefore, they are made exclusively from durable and corrosion-resistant alloys and metals.

Advice. If the height and width of the door to the steam room exceeds 60x180 cm, it is better to hang it not on two, but on three hinges to reduce the load on each.

The latches should be made from the same materials. Their appearance is worth paying special attention to.

  • Ball and roller latches installed on budget doors may jam due to difficult operating conditions.
  • Magnetic latches are more reliable and durable.

But it is best to choose wooden handles on the door to the steam room, made of hardwood that do not release resin when heated. They themselves do not heat up, unlike metal ones.

Disadvantages and advantages

There are few disadvantages to glass doors, but they exist.

These include:

  • High price compared to wooden counterparts.
  • The high thermal conductivity of glass is again compared to wood.
  • The products are heavy, which, combined with fragility, can cause installation difficulties.
  • It is impossible to make glass doors for the steam room with your own hands.

However, when compared with wooden structures, glass structures have much more advantages.

If you can argue about external attractiveness - here who likes what more, then from a practical point of view the advantages are as follows:

  • Fire resistance. Often the door is located in close proximity to the stove, so its non-flammability is very important.
  • Resistance to moisture and high temperatures - glass does not corrode, does not rot or deform. Does not emit harmful substances when heated.
  • Hygienic and easy to care for. Mold will never grow on such a door, and you can wash it as often as you like using household chemicals, including those with antibacterial properties.
  • Creating a reliable barrier to cold air masses. Unlike wood, glass does not dry out with the formation of cracks and cracks.
  • High light transmittance, which makes it possible to save on electricity or even do without electrical wiring in such a dangerous area as a steam room.
  • Long service life.

Installation features

Since glass doors are supplied assembled and with a frame, their installation should not cause difficulties. The most important thing is not to drop the heavy canvas and install the box correctly using a level.

Advice. You need to decide on the size of the door in advance in order to create an accurate opening. Its perimeter dimensions should be 15-20 mm larger than the dimensions of the box.

The table describes step by step how to install the door to the steam room:

Image Description of the stage
Remove the door from its packaging and remove the decorative trim from the hinges.
Remove the screws from the hinges and turn them perpendicular to the box.
Remove the door leaf by leaning it against the wall or laying it on a flat surface. It is advisable to lay cardboard or a rug.
Remove the processing strip at the bottom of the box. Check whether the position of the hinges corresponds to the opening side. If not, then move the top beam of the box in place of the bottom bar.
Place the box in the opening.
Secure the box in the opening with self-tapping screws or dowels, depending on the wall material.
Insert wood sealing plugs into the gaps between the frame and the opening.
Hang the door on its hinges. This should be done with an assistant who will hold the canvas while screwing in the screws.
Place decorative covers on the hinges.
Install the door handle. pen

The main installation is now complete. All that remains is to foam the cracks or fill them with insulation and decorate the opening with platbands.

Conclusion

Now you know, if not everything, then the most important thing about glass doors for baths and steam rooms. All that remains is to advise that when choosing, be sure to make sure that there are no scratches or chips on the canvas, as well as that it is of sufficient thickness and heat resistance. For all parameters that cannot be assessed visually, require certificates.

The video in this article will help you study the remaining unclear points.

Do-it-yourself glass door installation in a bathhouse and sauna

The traditional material for a bathhouse is wood, but this does not mean that other materials cannot be used. It is even possible if their characteristics are not inferior to or superior to wood. A fairly striking example of a worthy replacement is glass doors for a bathhouse or sauna. When using glass doors in a steam room, there are practically no negative aspects.

Glass doors to the steam room

There are three main disadvantages:

  • Great price (it's justified).
  • Thermal conductivity is higher than that of wood, but special doors for baths and saunas use tempered glass, which not only withstands high temperatures, but also has reduced thermal conductivity. It is impossible to get burned by touching such doors.
  • Fragility. This problem is partially solved by tempering: the treated glass is not so fragile, and when it breaks, it breaks into many fragments without sharp edges. Also, to increase strength in the manufacture of glass doors to the bathhouse, glass with a thickness of at least 8 mm is used. Both hardening and thickness affect the cost, so good glass doors cost a lot, but they are not easy to break.

Glass doors to the steam room with a pattern

These are, perhaps, all the shortcomings. But there are plenty of advantages:

  • Through the glass door you can see people in the steam room. From a safety point of view, this is great: you can come to the rescue in a timely manner if you suddenly feel sick.
  • It becomes lighter in the steam room and this light is dim, diffused, pleasant to the eye and conducive to relaxation.
  • The service life of a glass door to a bathhouse made of tempered glass is almost unlimited, unless it is broken.
  • Cleaning glass doors in a bathhouse is much easier than cleaning wooden doors. Any detergent is suitable.
  • The glass doors in the steam room are not threatened by fungi and mold; there is simply no place for them to multiply on a timely cleaned glass surface.
  • No deformation under any operating conditions: neither temperature, nor humidity, nor their changes and differences in any way affect the dimensions of the glass door leaf.
  • Modern glass doors for a sauna or bathhouse are beautiful.

Glass door for a bath

Despite all the advantages of glass doors, not everyone recommends installing them in a bathhouse. This is due to the fact that it is important to retain steam in the steam room of a Russian bath. To do this, make a high threshold - at least 10 cm, and a door leaf that fits tightly to the jamb. In a sauna, on the contrary, a gap is often made under the door leaf to ensure air flow. Therefore, you can safely install glass doors in the sauna.

For lovers of high quality, we can recommend products from the Finnish company Harvia. We have previously talked about Harvia sauna stoves, but in addition to stoves, the company produces a large assortment of glass doors for saunas and baths.

Glass doors for baths and saunas from the Finnish company Harvia. Glass color (from left to right): bronze, gray, white, satin (matte)

After reading the reviews of those who have a glass door installed in a Russian bathhouse, we came to the conclusion: it is also possible to install glass doors in a bathhouse. And this will not interfere with retaining steam at all. The doors should open outward “from the steam room” (to the right or left, as is convenient), and they can be installed so that it is possible to fill a threshold on the side of the steam room, which perfectly retains all the moisture inside. Good glass doors are made in such a way that they practically do not allow steam to pass through at the points of contact with the frame (the kit includes a seal that is inserted into the frame). So they install a glass door in the bathhouse and don’t complain.

Glass door with a pattern

According to reviews from bath attendants, some use the glass door to determine the humidity in the steam room - they say it “works” no worse than a hygrometer, some are pleased with the ease of care, but everyone unanimously claims that they have no regrets. And the main advantage of a glass door to a Russian bath is that it does not react to changes in humidity: it does not swell or shrink, because any wooden door either swells or shrinks. Because of this, it is difficult to open/close, which is not good, or large cracks appear through which the same steam escapes and heat loss increases. Everyone who has installed glass doors in their bathhouse or sauna definitely advises, in addition to the quality of the glass, to pay attention to the fittings.

When choosing a glass door for a bathhouse or sauna, try to find a model with three or more canopies. The thickness of the glass for a door to a sauna or bathhouse must be at least 7 mm, and such a monolith weighs a lot. And two hinges often don’t hold up and break. Even if there are two holders, pay attention to the possibility of replacing them or installing additional ones. Hinges for a glass door to a sauna must be made of stainless steel or any material that is not subject to corrosion.

Fittings for glass doors to the sauna

It is worth paying attention to the latch. Glass sauna doors, which cost less, often have a ball latch installed. The disadvantage of ball latches is that they often jam and can cause unpleasant moments at the most inopportune moment (you were about to jump out of the steam room and knock over the douche device on yourself, but the door does not open). The most ideal option for a steam room door is magnetic latches made of three or four elements. They are always functional.

Door fittings also include handles. Wooden handles are usually installed on glass doors to a sauna or bathhouse. When purchasing, make sure that they are comfortable and located at the desired height. For greater comfort and reliability, special silicone gaskets are often placed between the handles and the glass door - this is not an unnecessary precaution.

Installing a glass door in a sauna or bathhouse

There is one fundamental difference in installing a door in a sauna or bathhouse:

in the sauna there is no threshold in the steam room, and the gap between the door leaf and the floor does not close. In a bathhouse, a threshold is desirable - it will help retain moisture in the steam room. This should be taken into account when choosing a glass door and determining its size.

Glass sauna doors can have a metal or wooden frame. The steel frame is installed before finishing the walls, the wooden frame – after. This is their main difference.

If you decide to install it yourself, you will need an assistant - the canvas weighs a lot (a square meter of 7 mm thick canvas is about 25 kilograms) and it will be difficult to hold it alone without installation experience.

When disassembling the packaging, place wooden planks from it next to it: it is convenient to lay the glass sheet on them and you will not need to solve the problem of how to lift it from the floor later.

In order to detach the glass from the frame, you need to loosen the fastening screws on the hinges and bend them on the opposite side. After this, the glass can be lifted and placed on wooden slats.

During installation, you can change the direction of door opening - left or right - by changing the location of the jamb. Having chosen the direction of opening the door, install the box in the opening. Use wedges to secure. Be sure to check that the installation is vertical. This determines how easy it is to open/close the door and how long it will last.

Once positioned, lightly tighten the screws at the top of the box on the side where the hinges are located and check again that they are vertical. Repeat the procedure with the fasteners on the other side. Once you have finally installed the box, tighten the screws as tightly as possible. The box is installed.

The next step will be installing the glass. It needs to be inserted into the loops and tightened. At this stage, an assistant is simply necessary: one holds the glass, the other tightens the fastener.

It is easy to check whether the door is installed correctly or not: you need to close the doors and check the gaps. If everything is done correctly, the gaps are the same, and the canvas fits tightly to the seal. Now you can install the latch and handle. The installation of a glass door in a sauna or bathhouse is completed.

Having some skill, installing doors will not be difficult, otherwise it is better to entrust the installation of a glass door to professionals: buying a new one will be much more expensive...

A professional can install a glass door alone.

You can install glass doors not only in a bathhouse or sauna. They will “fit” perfectly into the hammam: modern technologies allow you to apply a variety of designs of varying complexity and theme. The rules for choosing a glass door and installing it in a hammam are no different.

Advice: It is better to install either a frosted glass door or one with a pattern in the steam room. There were cases when they simply did not notice the transparent one and “opened” it with their heads

Glass door to the sauna: installation nuances

Bathroom doors made of glass are being used more and more often. Just made from glass, but along with this, combined options are wonderfully used, which are made from wood and glass.

A glass door to a bathhouse can also be used, for example, for a shower compartment. There is direct contact with water and such a design will solve many problems.

In this article we will consider the question of how to use glass doors for baths and saunas. You can look at photos and videos on this topic and choose the right configuration for yourself. Instructions for performing this work will be given.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Before purchasing, it is worth finding out what we are getting in the end.

Since there are some details you may or may not like:

  • This material is environmentally friendly and will not harm a person in a wet environment;
  • Glass doors to the bathhouse perfectly tolerate high humidity and temperature and based on this, it will last for quite a long time, and under the action of the listed loads it will not change its structure;
  • The disadvantage can be considered the possibility of damage to the canvas by mechanical means. But this issue is being resolved and it is possible to apply an armored film to the surface;
  • Glass doors to the bathhouse are enough(see Installation of glass doors in residential and public buildings) and this is completely possible to do with your own hands and without resorting to outside help;
  • This design visually enlarges the room and based on this, for small rooms this is just a godsend;
  • A glass door for a sauna does not require a lot of maintenance, unlike a wooden structure;
  • Glass bath doors are transparent and this confuses some. But this issue is easily resolved and the glass can be tinted, we will talk about this below;
  • The price of the material is not high and is significantly lower than some types of wood.

What to look for when purchasing

Glass doors for baths and saunas should be selected according to certain rules.

If you take them into account when purchasing, then you will not be disappointed at the end of the installation:

  • Glass doors for baths should be selected according to glass thickness, this indicator should not be less than 7 mm. The temperature in the sauna is quite high and the fabric must withstand it;
  • you need to pay attention to the box, which must be made of wood, and hardwood;

Attention: You should never take boxes that are made of coniferous wood. When heated, such material begins to release resin and therefore, when touched, you can damage the skin.

  • The glass door for a bathhouse must fit well enough to the jamb, otherwise there will be a draft and if you installed such a door in the steam room, then the heat will come out;
  • Fittings for glass doors to the sauna should not get hot, otherwise you may damage your skin.

Removing transparency

Glass doors for a bath confuse some with their transparency, then we will tell you how to quickly eliminate this drawback, and without reducing the quality of the material.

  • A bathhouse door with glass can be made matte and not transparent using a sandblaster. The price of the work is not so high, so anyone can afford it;
  • If you have a talent for drawing, then you have the opportunity to apply a drawing on the surface (see Doors for painting: we prepare and paint). There are many waterproof paints available at retail;
  • It is also possible to tint glass; there are many films available in the retail trade that are designed just for this;
  • It is possible to spray the surface; there are a large number of companies that can easily and quickly carry out this work. It is possible to give a shade of gold and silver.

Door tinting

This is not as difficult a job as it might seem at first glance. But just go here and do everything slowly.

Tool

  • First of all, prepare the knife and most importantly, it must be sharp;
  • A rubber spatula will come in handy, but not very soft;
  • Prepare a soap solution and a spray bottle;
  • Tinting film.

Applying film

This issue can be divided into two stages: preparation of the material and bright installation. You should not rush during the entire process.

Do your work carefully:

  • First of all, choose a hard and flat surface and roll out a roll of film on it. Place the glass on it and cut it to the required size. We do this so that there are no folds, and later they will not be smoothed out. When cutting, it is necessary to increase the film by a couple of cm on each side;
  • Now the surface of the glass must be carefully cleaned of grease stains, dust and dirt. We do this by applying a soap solution to the surface and then removing the liquid using a rubber spatula. We run the spatula a couple of times, we should have a completely clean surface;
  • Now we apply a soap solution to a clean surface using a spray bottle;
  • Now we remove the protective layer from the film, it is called “Liner”. This work is best done together;

  • We apply a soap solution to the adhesive layer of the film, thus neutralizing it for a certain time. Then the film is simply much easier to attach and does not immediately stick to the surface, which allows it to be placed correctly;
  • Now we apply the film to the surface and immediately smooth it out onto the plane with our hand;

Attention: The film should be smoothed as follows. First, draw a line in the middle and then begin smoothing from the center and to the sides.

  • Now go do the same with a spatula. All water from under the film must be removed;
  • Then trim the edges with a sharp knife. Then we go along the edge of the cut again with a spatula and press the film completely.

Glass door installation

All work is done entirely with your own hands and this will reduce the costs of the entire structure. All work is done according to certain rules and in compliance with the rules, the most important thing is not to rush and make the correct markings.

Apply markings

This is where it all begins. be directed to take this issue seriously.

Since incorrect execution of this work will lead to incorrect installation and the door will not fully perform its functions:

  • We measure the door and use a tape measure for this. add about 15 cm to the taken size; this is the size that will still be required for attaching the guides. We mark the size on both sides of the opening and draw marks and connect these points using a straight strip;

Attention: Before drawing a line, check the correct placement of the door. To do this, it is worth using a building level of the required length. The line must be entirely parallel to the ground. If this is not true, then proceed to make the necessary transformation.

  • then head to check the width. The door should not be butted, there should be a gap of at least 5 cm.

Fastening the guides

This part is attached to a steam glass door differently and should be taken into account. For example, for a wooden door, one guide is fully enough.

And for the glass one there are two, another one is placed below and a larger number of rollers will be useful. The glass should be fixed without distortion and be more stable when moving.

Fastening can be done using several methods, but they are united by one detail: installation is done strictly along the drawn line and in relation to the wall, the gutter should be removed in the same way. Nothing should interfere with the movement of the canvas.

  • We mark the installation and attach the guides. If the plane is made of wood, then self-tapping screws will suffice, but if the base is made of concrete or brick, then you need to make a hole using a hammer drill and then make a connection with dowels;

Attention: Do not use dowels from kits for this job. Such a connection will not be reliable. You should go buy plastic and screws for it separately, but they should be taken a few mm larger than the cross-section of the plastic. Such a connection will be reliable and of high quality.

Attention: When installing a glass door, pay special attention to one detail; the pressure is applied using a paranit gasket. Based on this, when purchasing, make sure that they are reliable. Immediately pay attention to the density. It is not uncommon to be different. If it is too soft, then make a replacement, such a connection will not hold the door.

  • We take a level and check that the door is installed correctly. Then we install the fittings.

As you can see, such an installation does not require any special skills. The most important thing is to make the correct markings and not to pinch the glass fastening.

Installing a glass door in a steam room

A bathhouse is a room that is constantly exposed to moisture. Therefore, installing a door to a steam room in a bathhouse requires a careful approach. First you need to choose a glass door that will meet all security requirements.

Types of glass doors to the steam room

Currently, there are several types of glass doors for steam rooms:

  1. Convenient pendulum structures in steam baths can easily open in two directions. And with the help of a magnetic closer, it opens and closes smoothly.
  2. The hinged glass door of the steam bath can only open in one direction, and it is installed in a wooden frame using hinged hinges (butterflies) made of stainless steel. The handles for the glass door to the bathhouse and the frame structure are made of non-coniferous wood.
  3. A sliding glass door for a steam room is an excellent option if the dimensions of the room do not allow the installation of a swing or pendulum structure.

When choosing glass for installing a door in a steam room, it is necessary to take into account the operating conditions. Heat-resistant glass comes in 3 categories: A1, A and A3. Experts recommend installing durable glass panels measuring 190x70 cm, category A3, into the steam room. They can withstand a blow equal to a force of 3382 kgf/m², and a fall of a heavy object (about 100 kg) from a height of up to 10 m. Such high strength characteristics of glass are achieved through the use of a special hardening process, in which the material softens, changing the composition of its crystal lattice. As a result of subsequent extreme cooling, the degree of thermal resistance of glass increases several times.

Advantages of a glass door for a steam room

Materials required for installing hinged glass panels:

  • glass sheet;
  • hardwood timber measuring 4x80 mm;
  • door hinges;
  • fittings (wooden or metal);
  • closer;
  • soft silicone seals;
  • platbands;
  • fastening elements (anchors);
  • polyurethane foam;
  • means for impregnation of wooden structural elements.

Door installation tools:

  • electric screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • hacksaw;
  • building level;
  • construction pencil;
  • tape measure, square.

Installing a steam room door with your own hands

Instructions for installing glass doors

  1. We begin to install the wooden box so that there is a distance of 5-7 cm between the floor and the door. This is necessary so that it opens and closes easily.
  2. When installing a wooden pane, we maintain precise geometry so that the glass sheet can fit into it without distortion. Using a building level, we attach the box to the wall using long anchors. In order to easily align the box while maintaining the evenness of the corners, we make its dimensions slightly smaller than the doorway.
  3. We fill all gaps and voids with polyurethane foam. After it dries, cut off the excess with a sharp knife.
  4. We carefully place the silicone soft insulation into the formed grooves of the door frame.
  5. We attach the hanging loops to the canvas in the holes made by the manufacturer. We put soft pads under them.
  6. We expose the door and carefully screw the hinges to the frame.
  7. We screw the handles with soft silicone gaskets to the glass sheet.
  8. We carefully treat all wooden elements of the door structure with a special impregnation and then coat it with waterproof varnish.

Where can an electromagnetic lock be installed, device and principle of operation, advantages and disadvantages, main technical parameters, types and types, what is included in the kit, installation instructions and connection diagrams, control.

Installing an electromagnetic lock is a reliable way to protect your home while ensuring its aesthetics. appearance and ease of management.

The modern market offers many similar products, differing in price, characteristics, functionality and installation features.

Let's look at it below:

  • Where are electromagnetic locks used?
  • What are the features of their device, and on what principle do they work?
  • What are the pros and cons of EMR you need to know about?
  • What are the nuances of choosing electromagnetic locks, and how are they equipped?
  • What algorithm is used for installation?

Each of these issues requires detailed consideration.

Where can an electromagnetic lock be installed?

The main feature of electromagnetic locks is their versatility. They are used on almost all types of structures - on entrance and interior doors, on gates and on swing gates Oh.

When choosing a place for installation, you should take into account the relevance and operating features of the product.

So, installing an electromagnetic lock on the door in a toilet or bathroom does not make sense - it is expensive. In addition, when installing the lock outdoors, it is worthwhile to provide protection against moisture getting into the mechanism.

Design and principle of operation

The undeniable advantage of an electromagnetic lock is its simplicity of design. The product is based on a core with a winding, hidden in a special housing.

The core deserves special attention. It consists of many sheets of electrical steel, characterized by a slight magnetizing effect. To reduce residual stress, a paint coating is used.

The core, formed from plates, most often has an W-shape. The winding is a coil with a copper wire wound on it. The conductor is coated on top with a special insulating compound.

The product body is made of aluminum or steel. Sometimes plastic is also used, but its disadvantage is a lower resource and less reliable design.

The operating principle is based on the action of electricity and magnet. It is triggered after voltage is applied to the winding and the magnetic elements are activated. As a rule, 5 W of power is enough to securely fix massive doors weighing up to 150 kg.

When the EMC is turned on and off, an electromagnetic circuit is formed, which is affected by alternating current. With the help of a capacitor, charging is carried out through the winding, due to which the polarity of the magnet changes. In this case, the residual current is directed to magnetization reversal.

One of the main elements of an electromagnetic lock is a capacitor. If it breaks, it may be difficult to open the doors.

The solution in this case is only to replace the faulty element and connect it parallel to the terminals.

Advantages and disadvantages of the device

Like any other locking mechanisms, electromagnetic locks have their pros and cons.

Advantages:

  • Quiet operation;
  • Long service life;
  • Possibility of combination with an intercom, call button, code entry panel and other mechanisms;
  • Modern appearance.

Flaws:

  • Large dimensions and weight;
  • High voltage requirements;
  • Ease of re-entry (after a successful first hack).

An electromagnetic lock is directly dependent on electricity. Without power supply, it stops performing its assigned tasks. This feature can be counted among the advantages and disadvantages of the devices.

From the position fire safety this is a plus, because when the power is turned off, the doors in complexes with large crowds of people should open.

Based on security conditions, turning off the electromagnetic locking device when there is a loss of voltage is a minus, because it simplifies the task for an attacker planning to break into an apartment or house.

That is why UPSs (uninterruptible power supplies) are often used when installing such devices.

Main technical parameters

An electromagnetic lock has a number of characteristics that should be taken into account when selecting and purchasing a device.

Among them:

  • Holding strength. Typically, electromagnetic locking products have a high pull-out load (measured in kilograms). On sale you can find products that have a holding force of 100 to 1000 kilograms or more. When choosing a product from one manufacturer, keep in mind that the step between different models is from 50 to 100 kilograms. For interior doors, a holding force of 150 kg is sufficient, and for entrance doors, this parameter should be 250 or more. For metal, the requirements are even higher - from 1000 kg.
  • Residual magnetization. During operation, there are situations when a door with an electromagnetic lock opens with great difficulty. This is due to the presence of residual magnetization of the EMC caused by errors in technological process or incorrect choice of magnet parameter. The optimal residual magnetization should be no more than 1.5 - 2 kg.

Types and types of electromagnetic locks and features of their installation

All electromagnetic locks are divided into two types:

  • By closing method;
  • According to management features.

There are also a number of subspecies that differ in the principles of locking:

Electromagnetic locks are also divided by type of control:

According to the method of fastening the EMZ can be:

  • Invoice. In this case, it is fixed using metal corners, regardless of the location of the handle;
  • Semi-mortise - installed in the door cavity, but some of the elements of the device protrude above the surface;
  • Mortise - the product is completely inside the canvas.

Electromagnetic locks with controller

EMZ with an autonomous controller are becoming increasingly popular. The devices are installed in apartment buildings, on the entrance doors of industrial facilities and administrative institutions.

EMZ with control can be used in conjunction with the following devices:

  • Sensors signaling the opening of the door;
  • Key readers (there are contact and contactless);
  • Lock opening buttons (have a normally open contact);
  • External buzzers and LEDs;
  • Input inversion jumper, with which you can unlock the doors by supplying or removing power.

The advantage of an EMZ with a controller is that it is compatible with the computer where the key database is stored. You can also quickly download and upload the mentioned information using a PC.

What is included in the electromagnetic lock kit?

To install the device, you will need not only a lock, but also a number of additional mechanisms.

An electromagnetic lock kit is a set of elements that are installed in various rooms and meet the stated requirements.

The electromagnetic lock kit consists of the following elements:

  • Lock. Sold with wires for connecting to a voltage source and a counter plate;
  • Controller is a device used to control the lock. Using the controller, the main elements of the electromagnetic protection device are connected;
  • Data reader (used for opening). The mechanism can be unlocked by entering a code or using an electronic key. The latter may take the form of a card or key fob. Taking into account the model, a suitable code panel is selected;
  • Keys. Typically, six keys come with an electromagnetic lock. One of them is already programmed for a certain opening frequency. Using the master key you can recode the others;
  • Login buttons. These elements are installed indoors and are necessary to facilitate exit from the building without the use of keys;
  • Power unit. The purpose of the device is to power the EMZ. The power supply is connected to a household voltage of 220 V. In addition, for uninterrupted supply of current to the electronic lock, the power supply unit is equipped with batteries. The auxiliary power supply allows you to avoid EMC failure in the event of loss of voltage necessary to hold the lock in the closed position (not always installed);
  • Electrical wires - used to assemble a circuit.

It is worth noting that on sale you can find not only ready-made kits, but also individual models of deputies.

Here are some options:

Additional devices for connecting to EMS

During the installation process, additional devices can be connected to the electromagnetic lock to increase its functionality and reliability.

Here are some of them:

  • Intercom;
  • Video intercom;
  • Door closer;
  • Call button;
  • Code entry panel and other products.

The closer ensures smooth closing of a heavy door leaf, which reduces the wear rate of parts and helps extend service life.

If the EMZ is installed on a gate or gate, an intercom is installed along with the device.

It is not included in the kit, but if desired, it can be easily purchased separately and then combined into one circuit with an electromagnetic lock. The call panel is mounted on the outside (from the street side), and the monitor is mounted indoors.

Installation instructions and connection diagrams

When purchasing an electromagnetic lock and subsequent installation, it is worth remembering a number of features characteristic of various types door panels. Below we will look at the main options.

Entrance metal door

Before starting work, prepare and lay out suitable tools. You will need a tape measure, a building level, pliers, a hammer, and wire cutters. Also prepare a pencil, drill and screwdriver.

Depending on the type of box, mounting brackets may be required. It’s good if you have on hand a core, a tap and other products necessary for installing an electromagnetic lock on metal doors.

The main fastening element of the EMZ is a cylinder with a special cap that rests on the door plane from the outside.

During the installation process, you need to mark the installation location, drill a hole for the diameter of the screw, and drill a hole for the diameter of the bushing on the outside of the door.

It is important to make sure that the bushing fits into a larger diameter hole from the outside of the door and rests against the metal sheet on the other side. The holes on the bushing and the inside of the doors must line up exactly with each other.

It happens that even with correct markings difficulties arise. They are often caused by a discrepancy between the length of the sleeve and the thickness of the door leaf.

Therefore, if the sleeve is long, it will not be possible to completely hide it. Otherwise, the mounting screw may not reach the threads.

The options may be as follows:

  • In the first situation, the “extra” part of the sleeve is simply cut off. To solve this problem, an ordinary grinder is used. Next, using a tap, you still need to go through the thread to remove burrs;
  • In the second situation, you need to find a longer screw, because it is unlikely that you will be able to extend the sleeve.

It is advisable to place a rubber washer between the door leaf and the “iron”, which ensures reliable contact and the necessary backlash.

To avoid rotation of the mating part around the screw, it is worth drilling holes under the studs on the back.

First, the mating part is attached, after which the EMZ itself is installed. This is due to the fact that limited space is allocated for installation of the “iron”, but you can “play” with the electromagnetic lock itself.

The EMZ is attached to the canvas using a corner (can be included in the kit). To begin with, the product is attached to the frame, and then the lock itself is installed.

To secure the corner, you will need a drill, screws and a tap. If attaching the angle to the frame is not possible, drill holes in the frame so that they coincide with the holes in the EMZ. Next, fasten with screws.

Please note that after completion of the work there will be no possibility of adjustment, so you should pay close attention to the markings. Otherwise, you will have to drill additional holes.

It is worth noting that many doors are already equipped with electromagnetic locks. If the device has not yet been installed, you can do the work yourself or invite a specialist.

As a rule, drilling or preparing a niche for a hidden part does not cause problems, but you will have to tinker with the hole for the cylinder.

Plastic doors

Installation of an electromagnetic lock in plastic doors has its own characteristics. The reason for installing the mechanism is the long service life of the product.

With frequent opening and closing of doors, the electromagnetic lock hardly wears out. In addition, the device can be connected to an intercom, a reading element or a control unit, which increases the efficiency of protecting the premises and simplifies the operation process.

But there are also disadvantages. Installation of EMZ can be done in the upper or lower corner of the door. This is due to the fact that in the process of attracting the canvas, it may deform and damage the glass.

That's why it's important to adhere to the following rules:

  • Avoid sudden changes in temperature;
  • Monitor the serviceability of the magnetic mechanism;
  • Maintain additional equipment (in particular, door closer) in working order;
  • Avoid sudden voltage surges (it is better to install a stabilizer).

Many types of locks are suitable for plastic doors. One option is SOCA SL-100B.

The peculiarity of the product is its excellent design, high level of security and the presence of additional equipment (installation parts, magnetic cards, power supply).

Another option is the SL-180L model, which has a downforce of 180 kg.

This is enough to hold the plastic door and protect the room from intruders.

Pay special attention to the EMR parameters. If the residual magnetization is too high, you cannot install such a model on a plastic door.

Regarding the installation of a lock on a PVC door, it is worth highlighting the following points:

  • Before starting work, it is advisable to study the door design, prepare the necessary equipment and become familiar with the installation technology;
  • If the plastic door already had a lock, dismantle it and select a suitable electromagnetic device; If the grooves fit, one screwdriver is enough to install the new mechanism;
  • If there was no lock in the canvas, it is better to contact a specialist.

Interior doors (using the example of YM series doors)

Let's consider the nuances of installing an electromagnetic lock on interior door leaves.

Algorithm of actions:

Glass doors

There are several types of electromagnetic locks that can be installed on glass doors. The most popular options are sliding or mortise mechanisms.

The design is based on an anchor that works only in the shear direction. After triggering, the teeth enter the socket, and their fixation is ensured by a magnetic field. Thanks to the convenient configuration, inserting the lock is not difficult.

Another option for EMZ for glass doors is retaining models. Their peculiarity lies in the fixation of the locking mechanism on the surface of the anchor.

The principle of operation is based on separation when the voltage decreases. After connecting the mechanisms, the holding is carried out due to a magnetic field.

Specialized types of locks can also be used - moisture-proof, heat- and moisture-resistant.

Narrow electromagnetic locks are usually installed on furniture, on display windows in retail outlets, on mailboxes and on fire cabinet doors.

Installing EMZ in a glass door is complex and painstaking work. The problem lies in the characteristics of the material, which has increased fragility and homogeneity. That is why when installing an electromagnetic lock, the thickness of the glass door leaf must be at least 5 mm.

If a mortise mechanism is used, the blade will have to be drilled using special devices and a diamond cutting edge. Simple tools will not help in such work. As an option, diamond-coated drills are suitable.

When making a hole, use special emulsions to ensure cooling of the door and tool.

There are fewer problems when installing the overhead mechanism. The device is mounted on special screws, which are inserted into the bar through previously made holes.

After this, the locking mechanism is pressed against the plane. In order for the product to adhere to the doors, it is necessary to use plastic gaskets.

Swing gates

For installation on swing gates, you can use an EMZ with a holding force of 280 kg. If it is not possible to buy a product for external installation, you can also use an internal electromagnetic lock.

In the latter case, it is necessary to treat the product with silicone to avoid moisture getting inside. The product is powered from the gate power supply. The EMZ is connected via a normally closed 12 Volt relay. After the relay is triggered, the locking mechanism is activated.

The lock and the strike are installed on swing gate leaves using conventional screws. The EMZ is controlled using a remote control.

Gate

As noted at the beginning of the article, electromagnetic locks are often installed on gates.

The mechanisms used are of two types:

  • Shear (mortise);
  • Retaining.

The second option has a simpler design and is more often used on gates. This is due to ease of installation and reliability.

When choosing a product, it is worth considering the characteristics of the EMC. It should have a holding force of 150-200 kg.

Installation is carried out as follows:

  • In the metal frame of the gate, make holes with a diameter slightly smaller than the size of the screw;
  • Fix the EMZ;
  • Place the striker on the sash;
  • Run the wires from the reader along the edge of the gate body. Next, fix the knot on the sash or fence;
  • Place the controller in a convenient place on the outside of the gate. In the future, this device will be responsible for recognizing cards and keys and subsequently turning off the power to the EM lock. As an option, you can install a code controller, but in this case there is a high risk of entry by unauthorized persons;
  • Place a button on the inside of the gate that allows you to open the lock when leaving the area. It is important that the button cannot be reached from the street.
  • Connect the lock to a power source. To do this, use a cable of the VVG-NG type with two cores of 1.5 “square” cross-section. Finally, secure the tray along the wiring path to avoid the cable getting wet and causing short circuits.

Connection features

Now let's pay attention to connecting the electromagnetic lock. Here it is enough to have basic knowledge of the electrical part and follow the instructions that come with the device.

If you don’t have a manual, you can contact the manufacturer or find a diagram on the Internet.

The main element of the device is the controller to which the equipment is switched.

The EMZ connection is made using 2-core wires with a cross-section of at least 0.5 mm. The connecting wires are hidden inside the wall or in a corrugated hose, which does not spoil the design of the room.

Electromagnetic lock control

The EMZ is controlled through a controller that performs the following functions:

  • Key coding;
  • Transmitting a signal to open the mechanism;
  • Power supply to close the lock;
  • Other functions.

After the first connection, all keys must be programmed. To do this, follow this algorithm:

  • Place the main key that comes with the kit near the controller that controls the device. The controller goes into jumper mode (recording);
  • Bring each key one by one to the reader and program the remaining products in this way;
  • Put the controller into operating mode.

An electromagnetic lock requires a special approach to maintenance. So, experts recommend:

  • Periodically check the condition of the plate. This is necessary to ensure normal adhesion to the electromagnet. The problem with EMR is that the strength of adhesion depends on the distance to the source. Valid here geometric progression, so even a few millimeters play a significant role. As soon as moisture gets on the plate, the oxidation process begins. At the same time, the hydroxide and oxide prevent the mechanism from performing its functions, which may result in a decrease in adhesion force in the future.
  • Be careful when installing an EM lock on a door. As a rule, during the fastening process, self-tapping screws or other elements are used that weaken the force of the locking mechanism. This is why this parameter must be checked to avoid the plate falling off.
  • Purchase or find a master key. This product is used to service the controller and encode the entry card. If you lose a key, take a spare key in the box with which you can program the rest.
  • Observe safety precautions. During the installation of EMC, many people confuse the output and input terminals or leave large open parts. As a result, a short circuit and a decrease in product life are possible.

An electromagnetic lock is a reliable assistant in protecting your home, apartment, office or any other premises. The main thing is to carefully approach the issue of its selection and installation.

If you do not have the necessary knowledge and time to consider the topic, it is better to trust the professionals.

The principle of operation is based on the physical attraction of magnetic materials (bar) to a source of constant magnetic field (magnet). Magnetic materials are alloys of iron with other metals. Permanent magnets are made from ferromagnetic alloys. The castings are exposed to a strong magnetic field, causing them to become magnetized, becoming a source of constant attraction.

The magnetic field acts at a short distance (5-25 mm), so the blade must be brought close enough to the bar.

The magnet is little affected by ambient temperature and humidity. The absence of moving parts operating under load ensures high reliability, low wear, and long product life.

Having appeared on the construction market relatively recently, magnetic locks have already gained popularity. This is largely due to their durability, silent operation and ease of installation. The operating principle of such locks is quite simple. It is based on keeping the door array in a closed state due to a strong electric magnet. It is the magnet, attracting the metal plate attached to the door, that ensures its tight and reliable closure.

Well, since magnetic locks do not contain rubbing or moving mechanisms, they have a fairly long service life and operate flawlessly regardless of weather conditions.

The door structure is held in electromagnetic locks by a strong electromagnet

The passive magnetic lock with a simple latch is designed very simply. It has no mechanical parts and consists of two elements: a metal plate and a magnet. To open the door, the handle is simply pulled and the lock elements are released.

A passive magnetic lock with mechanical elements and a more complex latch is designed differently. When turned, its handle moves the metal plate away from the magnetic strip, and the interior doors open. Such locks are increasingly used on interior doors instead of regular ones.

The operating principle of an electromagnetic lock is more complex. The door is held closed as long as electric current is applied to the lock. It opens with a special magnetic key or code, which is entered on the panel provided for this. In this case, the current supply stops and the magnet opens.

Magnetic latch
Electromagnetic lock
Electromagnetic lock

Passive devices.
The category is represented by simple low-power mechanisms that operate without electrical power. Passive magnetic devices only hold the doors closed, but do not lock them.

Installation is justified for interior doors. In fact, they are a continuation of furniture magnetic fittings from the times of the USSR, redesigned for new tasks.

Simple models without latches consist of two plates (metal and magnetic). When the door moves, they close/unlock. To open, just pull the handle. The latch mechanism is more complicated. Turning the door handle moves the plate away from the magnetic part - the door opens.

Another category –
magnetic locks,
that require a power connection. The power of some models reaches 1 ton, so the main purpose of electromagnetic mechanisms is the access control of entrance doors. The composition contains mechanics and electromagnetic elements. According to the method of fastening on the canvas, the following are presented:

  • Overhead mechanisms - secured with corners. The door handle is independent of this type of lock.
  • Mortise lock installed in the door leaf.
  • Semi-mortise, when part of the lock protrudes above the level of the door.

Electrical voltage is required to hold the door structure in the closed position. A short-term loss of power occurs when entering a code combination of symbols on the lock panel, or using a magnetic key. At this time, the magnets open.

Magnetic door lock: installation and operation

The advantage of a magnetic latch-lock over its classic comrades is that the lock tongue is retracted inside the case when at rest. It leaves the body of the case only when it is opposite the lock mate installed on the door frame, that is, at the moment when you close the door.

When the door is open, the tongue does not stick out and does not get in the way. Thanks to this property, as well as the loud name “Magnetic Lock”, this model has become quite popular. The process of inserting and installing a magnetic latch is described in detail below.

Having checked the complete set and serviceability of the handles and latches, we begin by determining the level of height of the handles above the floor, usually 95-100 cm.

Please note

Inserting the body of a magnetic latch into a door is not much different from the same procedure with conventional latches. This is described in detail here. That is, having decided on the height of the handles above the floor, we make a selection relative to this mark using a router for the front latch strip.

We drill holes for the square pin, with which the handles are connected.

We insert the latch into the prepared place and fasten it with self-tapping screws.

Installing handles.

And now the fun begins. The thing that scares inexperienced installers in magnetic locks is the strike plate.

It’s not enough to cut the body of the latch into the door; you also need to make sure that it clicks smoothly and well. And this is the reason for the psychological trauma of many, many masters, whose names have not been preserved by history.

Close the door and mark the top and bottom of the magnetic tab on the box beam.

As a rule, if the strike plate is installed exactly in the center of the quarter, then this is enough for the tongue to fall into place when closing and the door to close tightly and easily. Using a 16 mm pen or a router, drill a hole for the magnet of the strike plate.

We insert the counter plate into its place.

We tighten the screws and check whether the tongue fits correctly into the strike plate. To do this, close the door. The strike plate may need to be moved to the right or left. To do this, we drill holes for the screws a little to the left or to the right, and insert wooden choppers into the old holes.

But I would not recommend doing this, since the doors and frame may change their geometry slightly over time and the lock will stop closing.

If you do not deepen the counter, you can easily move it a little to the right, left, up, down and thereby correct the position.

The magnetic lock is in place.

Enjoy your sidebar.

Best regards, door installer Sergey.

I received a letter in which a door installer wrote about how savage and barbaric it is to install a magnetic lock strike plate using a feather drill.

I explain that the article was written not only for super-super-super-duper professionals, but also for people who have never seen a manual router and are not going to buy it. And such people need to embed the lock with a simple tool at hand.

But just in case, so as not to confuse anyone else, I’m attaching a photo of the groove for the magnetic lock’s response, made with a 16mm cutter.

The magnet used is a reliable locking device with positive aspects. It is durable, silent, easy to use. Installing a magnetic lock will not take much time if you follow the steps exactly.

There are two types of locking mechanisms. They are applicable for various purposes. Some are mounted on metal entrance doors in the entrance, others are made for interior doors. Locks have their own operating characteristics, which should be taken into account during installation.

Locking devices are divided into types. Each of them is installed according to technology and has individual operating principles:

  1. Passive model. They put an accordion on the door. The mechanism is simple - a plate is fixed on the door frame, a magnet is installed on the door. When closed, the magnet is attracted to the plate and holds the blade. To open, you need to pull the door to the side, the magnet will open with the plate. The same latches are placed on furniture to hold the door. On one side there is a plastic box with a magnet, on the other there is a plate.
  2. Having a crossbar. The mechanism has mechanical parts. The crossbar is made of magnetic metal. When the canvas is closed, it is pulled out and enters the bowl on which the bar is connected. If you press the handle, it will open.
  3. Electromagnetic model. Mounted on front door. The lock is opened with an electronic key. To perform the operation, an uninterrupted supply of electricity is required. If the power is off, the door is open.

The complete set of the electromagnetic device upon purchase:

  • magnet powered by electricity;
  • a metal bar that attracts this magnet;
  • wire from the magnet to the electrical panel;
  • fasteners;
  • instructions for configuration, installation and operation.

Additional purchased items:

  1. Power unit. It has a built-in battery that supplies energy during a power outage.
  2. Controller. Needed to connect equipment.
  3. Closer. Slow closing of the door is one of the important conditions for noiselessness and comfort.
  4. Intercom. If necessary, a machine is installed at the entrance to know who has arrived.

The principle of operation of the locking mechanism is the attraction of a magnet. This force keeps the blade closed. An electromagnetic lock operates using a magnetic field that creates electricity.

Mechanisms with magnets have a number of advantages:

  • quiet operation;
  • simple installation;
  • significant service life;
  • availability for purchase.

Disadvantages of mechanisms with magnets:

  • metal objects, as well as metal dust, stick to the magnet;
  • a magnet operates in a certain field, so it is compared to a door closer;
  • The electric locking device requires a constant supply of electricity to operate.

Despite a number of disadvantages, magnetic mechanisms are popular.

Before installing a magnetic lock, you need a set of tools:

  • electric drill, screwdriver;
  • screwdrivers - flat, figured;
  • milling cutter;
  • hammer, chisel;
  • ruler, meter, corner, pencil.

A ruler and a corner are needed for correct, even installation of the mechanism in the canvas and box.

There are two types of locking devices for the front door:

  1. Retaining. Overhead device option. The magnet keeps the blade locked.
  2. Shift models. There is a tongue. When triggered, it blocks the door profile. Mortise lock.

The overhead version is installed on metal doors. Mortise models are produced for wooden panels, as well as for indoor doors.

Installation of the magnetic lock of the overhead model is carried out on the canvas from above. They do this in the following sequence:

  • attach the stencil, which is included in the lock kit, to a metal base;
  • holes for fasteners are drilled along it;
  • the steel plate is installed in the desired place and secured with bolts;
  • Mark the boundaries of the castle with a pencil;
  • the magnet is installed either on a plate or on a corner;
  • make holes with a drill for the panel (corner);
  • install a corner;
  • fix the magnetic element of the lock on the corner;
  • wires are brought out for the reader mechanism;
  • an exit button is installed on the other side;
  • The magnetic lock is connected according to the diagram in the instructions;
  • check the installed mechanism.

When installing the locking device, power tools are needed.

The mortise model is inserted into the door leaf. To do this you need to have carpentry skills.

Installation is carried out as follows:

  1. The fabric is removed from the loops. Place on a horizontal surface.
  2. A hole is made through the installation site. To do this you will need a nozzle.
  3. Markings are applied to the canvas that correspond to the size of the lock. This is required to create a niche where the mechanism will be installed.
  4. After creating the niche, mark the places for fasteners.
  5. Install the first part of the locking mechanism.
  6. The second part is installed on the onion. To do this you need to make precise markings.
  7. The canvas is hung on loops and additional elements are fixed.
  8. Connect the magnetic lock according to the diagram to electricity. Check the functionality of the system.

If malfunctions are detected in the operation of the electromagnetic lock, it is necessary to remove the mechanism, check its functionality and fix it in place again.

In installing the magnetic mechanism in interior door there are two options:

  1. The magnet is built into the door handle. Then you need to make markings on the door frame for the locking mechanism so that the match is exact.
  2. Overlay mechanism. The instructions for installing it are different.

For the lock on the canvas, mark the place with a pencil. First, the plate is attached to the canvas, then to the sash. The magnetic lock is fixed using the fastener included in the kit. After installation, check the mechanism for serviceability and functionality.

To avoid quick damage to the lock, you need to listen to the advice of the experts:

  1. The electromagnetic locking device controller must be placed in a sealed box. When precipitation occurs, moisture will not fall on it.
  2. After installing the lock, check the plate installed on the door frame. If it is far from the locking mechanism, the effect of the magnet weakens. Millimeters matter.
  3. Do not allow moisture to get on the magnetic lock - oxidation will occur.
  4. All installed elements of the lock should be well fixed with self-tapping screws, because with constant operation the fastening elements weaken.

Magnetic locks are gaining popularity due to their characteristics. This is functionality and attractive appearance. They also require extremely rare repairs - this is the replacement of any part. You can do the installation yourself without wasting any physical strength. When purchasing, you need to pay attention to the packaging.

Advantages and disadvantages

Physical principle, which underlies the operation of the device, gives it the following advantages:

  1. Soft, silent, smooth attraction. Closing the door without clicking. Silence helps preserve the restless sleep of children and the elderly.
  2. To fix the door, you do not need to close it completely - just close it so that the bar falls into the area of action of the magnet. The magnetic door latch will do the rest.
  3. The fittings will work reliably, even if the canvas sags on the hinges or the box becomes warped.
  4. The absence of protruding parts when open reduces the risk of snagging, tearing clothing, or even injury.
  5. Easy to install. For entry-level latches this is much easier to do than for mechanical type latches.
  6. There is virtually no wear on the moving elements of the latch. The tongue does not leave scratches on visible parts of the structure. In mechanical devices this causes a deterioration in appearance.
  7. The minimum number of moving parts and low loads on them during operation ensure low wear, high reliability, and a long service life.
  8. Advanced models, in addition to the usual function of fixing the canvas, can also perform the work of a door closer.

In written and online sources, saunas are distinguished as a separate subtype of baths. The opinion is being promoted that the fundamental difference between the sauna and the Russian Turkish baths– “dry” steam.

Numbers are given to confirm the “features” of the Finnish sauna:

  • The sauna has low humidity (5-10%) and high temperature indoors (from seventy to almost one hundred degrees).
  • The Russian bath offers balanced humidity (from 20 to 65 percent) and temperature (from fifty to ninety degrees).
  • The hammam is a record holder for humidity (from eighty to almost one hundred percent) at a low temperature of forty to forty-five degrees.

Visitors to Finland are very surprised when visiting native baths (and there really are a lot of them in a cold, damp country). Saunas are almost no different from the classic Russian bath. Finns also use brooms in steam rooms. The only significant difference between Finnish and Russian baths is in the method of steam preparation:

  • “Russian” steam and heat “supply” thoroughly. They place it in such a way (unlike the classic Russian hut stove) that almost all the heat is retained inside the stove. Moreover, it is heated in the dressing room, and then all the accumulated heat is released to the steam.
  • For a Finnish sauna (“sauna” is just “sauna” in Finnish), the temperature in the steam room is ensured by stones heated over a fire (for lovers of modern technology, electric and infrared heaters). And steam for the Finns plays a supporting role.

The Finnish bathhouse is a prefabricated Russian “ersatz”, where instead of a stove they use a compact and mobile substitute. It produces less steam than a stove. And his temperature is not so high. But he is definitely present.

The fairy tale about the “sauna” with dry steam was invented by manufacturers and suppliers of electric heaters (compact heaters). The first primitive designs did not allow water to be splashed on them. Hence the high temperatures and low humidity. But such a “sauna” could be built in almost any room (as long as the electrical wiring could withstand it).

It is these “real Finnish saunas” that are now being actively promoted around the world. Although the Finns themselves have never heard of such “innovations”. Meanwhile, the high temperature with low humidity in such “saunas” hits the skin hard, especially women’s, being an anti-cosmetology procedure.

Transparent doors for saunas

Marketers and advertisers are pushing us to install a glass door to the sauna in every possible way, having come up with a sauna without steam. However, as it turned out, instead of a traditional wooden structure, it also performs well in a real sauna with steam. Also suitable for baths. Although installing a glass door in the steam room of a Russian bath is not so profitable. This design will fog up too much and “cry”. For a classic steam room, ordinary wooden doors with glass are suitable.

If you choose wooden or glass doors to the sauna, first evaluate their pros and cons.

Glass door advantages

  1. Glass, unlike wood, does not become damp or dry out.
  2. If there is a glass door, you do not need a light source in the steam room. It will be enough to illuminate the dressing room.
  3. Glass is easier to care for than wood.

Disadvantages of glass construction

  1. A high-quality glass door usually costs more than a wooden one.
  2. High thermal conductivity compared to wood. Thanks to the invention of glass films, which reduce this indicator, this is a controversial disadvantage.
  3. Fragility. Typical for low-cost solutions. For saunas it is recommended to use thick tempered glass. Again, there are special “armored” films that increase the strength of glass.
  4. Transparency. Doors with transparent glass are not suitable for all sauna visitors. However, if you are a fan of the “proper” steam sauna, the glass will very quickly become opaque due to fogging.
Today there are many self-adhesive films that allow you to independently tint the glass with either a stained glass window or a pattern. A frosted glass door for a sauna can be made using film faster and cheaper than using labor-intensive, expensive processing. Therefore, tinting glass doors with special films is being used more and more often today.

Advertising and reality for glass doors

Recently, advertising has been intensively “promoting” glass sliding structures for saunas. Manufacturers claim that this model conserves heat better and is easier to install. But according to safety rules, rooms with high temperatures (and especially saunas and baths) must be equipped with doors that provide quick evacuation. Only swing doors that open into the dressing room are suitable for such requirements. All other structures pose a potential danger to the lives of sauna visitors. The fact is that when a person becomes ill from overheating, he does not immediately lose consciousness, but every second is important to leave the hot zone. Often it is enough to run out to the dressing room for the dizziness and palpitations to stop. So installation of a sauna should be simple and safe.

Installation of doors made of glass

A door structure made of tempered glass costs approximately five to six thousand rubles. And a sauna will cost from two to three thousand. So it makes sense to do it yourself when installing new glass. Moreover, installing a door to a sauna is not so difficult.

Technically, this operation is no different from, but has a number of specific features:

  • When installing, you should not skimp on cushioning materials (thick cardboard, wooden slats, etc.). The fact is that tempered glass is sensitive to shock.
  • Chips or cracks may form at the edges of the glass when the door comes into contact with the floor or walls. Therefore, use masking tape to protect the door in advance.
  • For the same reason, it is advisable to install doors with an assistant.

Installing a glass door with your own hands will require the following tools and materials:

  • building level;
  • electric drill;
  • wood wedges;
  • masking tape;

Installation of the door supplied with the door frame

Since the door frame and door are made to fit the size of the opening, any adjustment to the new design is usually not required.

Before starting work, it is advisable to cover the edges of the door with masking tape to protect it from possible damage.

All door fittings must be made of stainless steel (with the exception of wooden parts)

  • We install the door frame in the opening, having previously dismantled the door itself. Don't forget to remove the so-called technological strip (the bottom side of the box) from the box. It is needed to ensure the rigidity of the entire structure during transportation. But during installation it is not needed, since .
  • We fix the box in the opening with wooden wedges. We level it using a building level.
  • We secure the box in the opening with screws. We install decorative plugs covering the bolt heads.
  • We hang the door leaf on hinges for glass doors to the sauna, not forgetting to use gaskets.
  • A handle for the door to the sauna is installed.
  • A magnetic latch for a glass door to a sauna is used when it is necessary to fix the closed position.

Installation of a door supplied separately

  • Fittings for glass doors to the sauna must be removed from the door leaf before installation.
  • We are preparing wooden supports and spacers for installing the door leaf. The supports should provide a gap between the floor and the door of 100-200 millimeters. Gaskets should provide a gap between the frame (right, left side and ceiling) and the door of about 10 millimeters.
  • For safety reasons, it is advisable to make the gaskets with stops (to prevent the glass from accidentally falling out of the frame), and then temporarily screw them to the door frame with small screws (if you are installing the door without an assistant).
  • Using wedges, we align the door in the frame to ensure the necessary gaps.
  • We attach the door hinges and mark the places for installation on the frame
  • Remove the hinges and screw them to the door frame
  • We install the door in the hinges using spacers. We mount the handle and (if necessary).

Film abundance and its use

Films for glass are:

  • Protective. Their strength is such that glass coated with such a film cannot be broken with a hammer.
  • Thermal. After gluing such a film onto glass, the glass almost stops conducting heat (up to 80% of thermal energy is retained).
  • Mirror (architectural). After gluing such a film, sauna visitors will see everything in the dressing room, but it will be impossible to see them (especially if the light is on near the entrance to the steam room) - the door will seem like a huge mirror.
  • Decorative. They allow you to imitate stained glass, etching, matting, painted paintings and other beautiful exotic things on glass.

Using self-adhesive opaque films is simple - just cut the workpiece exactly to the size of the glass, separate the base layer and gradually apply the film to the glass, carefully smoothing it out.

The situation is more complicated with films on a transparent basis. Primarily due to increased requirements for the cleanliness of glass, the surrounding area and the installer’s hands. The fact is that an invisible speck remaining on the glass or film becomes visible after installation. And it can no longer be deleted.

Secondly, because of the need to use special tools. Their presence makes installation easier:

  • It is best to purchase a squeegee (sometimes also called a squeegee) where they sell the film.
  • Window cleaning machine. Allows you to quickly wash glass. It is advisable to buy not a plastic “disposable” product, but a metal professional one.
  • Spray bottle for spraying cleaning solution onto glass and film.
  • A sharp utility knife with replaceable blades.
  • Soap solution. For a liter of water (it is advisable to use soft filtered or distilled water), a few drops of neutral shampoo are enough.

Procedure for covering a sauna door with transparent film

  1. Before you start pasting, wet clean the dressing room and wash the glass door.
  2. We mark the material according to the size of the door, depending on the design of the pasting. Be sure to cut out the material with an allowance of two to three centimeters.
  3. Spray the glass door with a soap solution from a spray bottle.
  4. We wet the film on both sides with a soap solution to remove dust from it. We remove the protective layer from the film (it is better to do the operation with an assistant) and wet the adhesive surface.
  5. We glue the film onto the glass and smooth it, simultaneously removing air bubbles from under the film.
  6. Using a squeegee, we smooth the surface of the film several times, removing the soap solution.
  7. Cut off the excess film with a knife.

The film dries in 2-3 days. After this, the glass sauna door is ready for use.

Despite the fact that furniture magnets have been used in the production of cabinets for decades, they do not lose their relevance. Magnets - important element, ensuring tight fixation of the doors, preventing their sudden, spontaneous opening.

Magnets ensure the reliability and functionality of furniture. By pressing the doors tightly, they guarantee storage of things, create a well-groomed appearance of the interior and help hide all unnecessary items behind closed doors.

Using furniture for a long time leads to the fact that the moving elements on the doors (piano and decorative hinges, hinges on springs) weaken and can no longer cope with their load. Installing additional furniture holders ensures that the doors fit tightly to the furniture body.

There are many advantages of using furniture magnets:

  • ease of installation (a clear algorithm of actions is clear to everyone);
  • absence of protruding elements on the outside of the facades;
  • absence of any changes in the operation of magnetic elements during long-term use of the furniture;
  • durability and wear resistance of magnetic lock parts;
  • minimum number of magnetic holder parts;
  • The magnet is used both as a latch and as a door closer, tightly pressing the doors to the furniture body.

What are there

A simple magnetic mechanism consists of two parts (small strips), one of which is magnetic, placed in a plastic frame, and the other is flat, made of metal. When fixing the holder, the main element is placed on the door frame, and the metal part is placed opposite, on the facade wall. When close to each other, the two parts of the magnetic holder begin to attract and eventually connect, ensuring that the door is securely held in the closed position.

Furniture magnets are conventionally divided into several types:

  • passive ones are familiar magnetic latches that have been installed on cabinet doors for decades. Among the advantages, it is worth noting that everyone can understand the installation and versatility of use. One of the disadvantages is that the pressure on doors with passive magnets is small. Spontaneous opening of the doors is possible;
  • built-in magnetic locks are very similar in size and operating principle to mechanical locking devices, with the only difference being that a magnet is used instead of a key;
  • latch - when closing the door, the bolt automatically fits into the corresponding groove. To open the door, you just need to turn the handle;
  • magnetic lock with locking mechanism.

Passive

Nuances of fastening

Installing magnetic furniture locks is easy. By adhering to a clear algorithm of actions, the work will proceed quickly and efficiently:

  • We prepare the tool - to fix the magnetic holder you will need a screwdriver (or screwdriver), self-tapping screws and a pencil. Self-tapping screws must be selected taking into account the thickness of the furniture door. Otherwise, there is a high risk of damage to the outside of the facade;
  • mark the place where the holder is fixed. At this stage, it is important to be extremely careful, because only by clearly fixing the magnets opposite each other can you ensure a tight fit of the furniture doors. Using a tape measure will help you more accurately mark the fixation of the two parts of the magnetic holder opposite each other. If the dimensions of the facades significantly exceed standard values, it is better to mount not one, but several magnets at the same time. A simple “old-fashioned” method will help you quickly determine the desired location of the metal strip of the magnetic holder. Having secured the magnet to the facade, we attach to it an iron strip, thickly smeared with butter. Pressing the cabinet door tightly, the oil leaves a greasy mark, which is a guide for fixing the second part of the magnetic furniture holder;
  • We fix the magnet and the paired metal strip. If the facades and body of the furniture are made of wood, then both parts of the magnetic holder are screwed with self-tapping screws. If the furniture doors are made of glass, special glue or silicone will help fix the magnet. Do not tighten the screws too much until the work is completed;
  • We check the quality of the installation. If the doors, after installing the magnetic holder, close tightly and are not warped, then the work has been done correctly. Only after confirming the results of the work done can you tighten the fixing screws to the end.

A wide range of furniture magnets allows you to choose the ideal option at reasonable prices.
