Full text of the prayer “Rejoice to the Virgin Mary” in Russian

Mother of God Virgin Mary, filled with the grace of God, rejoice!
The Lord is with You, blessed are You among women and blessed is the Fruit born of You, because You gave birth to the Savior of our souls.

Explanations for prayer

Mother of God- gave birth to God.
Words Rejoice, the Lord is with you, blessed are you among women taken from the greeting of the Archangel Gabriel when he announced to the Blessed Virgin Mary the birth from Her according to the flesh of the Son of God (Luke 1:28).
Words Blessed are You among women mean that the Blessed Virgin Mary, as the Mother of God, is glorified more than all other women (

Luke 1:42; Ps.44:18).
Blagodatnaya- full of grace, mercy from God.
Blessed– glorified.
Words blessed is the fruit of your womb taken from the greeting of righteous Elizabeth, when the Holy Virgin Mary, after the Annunciation, wished to visit her (Luke 1:42).
The fruit of her womb– Son of God Jesus Christ.

This text clearly points to the fact that the Mother of God is the most glorified among any other women who have ever lived on Earth. Despite the fact that by nature Mary was an ordinary person, sanctified by God's grace, she was awarded such a crown of holiness that no other person after Her was awarded.

The birth of Jesus Christ sanctified not only the soul of the Ever-Virgin, but also Her flesh. This is evidenced by such words from the prayer as “blessed art thou among women” and “thou art of grace.”

The prayer is based on the greeting of the Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary at the moment of the Annunciation (Luke 1:28-31; Matthew 1:18-25). The famous “Ave, Maria” is the same prayer in Latin.

The Mother of God Prayer is as well known as the Lord's Prayer. They resort to it at every opportunity.

Rejoice, Virgin Mary,

Blessed are You among women,

Particularly zealous prayer books, monks, and hermits fulfill a special rule of the Theotokos, which includes other prayers, passages from the Gospel, as well as an Akathist (praise, hymn). At the same time, they remember all the stages of the life of the Mother of God from birth to death.

In churches they pray standing at any or especially revered icon in the family with the image of the Virgin Mary.

Text and meaning

The text of the prayer is clearly divided into three parts. The first, as mentioned at the beginning, was spoken by the Archangel Gabriel. This is an appeal to the Virgin Mary and a warning about the coming birth of the baby Jesus.

The fact that the Mother of God is the most glorified of all earthly women was testified by the holy righteous Elizabeth, the future mother of John the Baptist, a relative of Mary; Mary was the first to tell her the joyful news.

The last, final part is very important. This is a symbol of the possibility of atonement for sins, for the very birth of Christ and his subsequent earthly life testify to this.

Virgin Lady Theotokos, who bore in her womb the Savior Christ and our God, I place all my hope in You, I trust in You, the highest of all Heavenly powers. You, Most Pure One, protect me with Your Divine grace. Direct my life and guide me in accordance with the holy will of Your Son and our God. Grant me remission of sins, be my refuge, protection, protection and guide, leading me into eternal life. In the terrible hour of death, do not leave me, my Lady, but hasten to help me and deliver me from the bitter torment of demons. For in Your will you also have power; Do this as truly the Mother of God and sovereign over all. Accept the worthy gifts brought to You alone by us, Your unworthy servants, most merciful, all-holy Lady Mother of God, chosen from all generations, who turned out to be superior to every creature in heaven and earth. Since through You we came to know the Son of God, through You the Lord of hosts became with us, and we were made worthy of His holy Body and Blood, then blessed are You throughout all generations, most blessed of God, most holy of the Cherubim and most glorious of the Seraphim; and now, praying, O All-Holy Mother of God, do not cease to beg for us, Thy unworthy servants, so that we may be delivered from every wiles of the evil one and from every extreme, and may be kept unwounded in the face of every poisonous attack. Even to the end, through Your prayers, keep us uncondemned, so that, saved by Your intercession and Your help, we will always send glory, praise, thanksgiving and worship to the One God in the Trinity and the Creator of all. Good and most blessed Lady, Mother of the good, all-good and all-good God, look upon the prayer of Thy unworthy and indecent servant with Thy merciful eye, and act with me according to the great mercy of Thy ineffable compassion and do not look at my sins, both in word and in deed, and with every feeling done, voluntarily and involuntarily, with knowledge and in ignorance, and renew me all, making me the temple of the all-holy, life-giving and sovereign Spirit, Who is the power of the Most High, and overshadowed Your all-pure womb, and dwelt in it. For You are the helper of the weary, the representative of the needy, the savior of the distressed, the haven of the troubled, the protector and intercessor of those in extremity. Grant to Your servant contrition, silence of thoughts, constancy of thought, a chaste mind, sobriety of soul, a humble way of thinking, a holy and sober mood of spirit, a prudent and well-ordered disposition, which serves as a sign of spiritual composure, as well as piety and peace, which our Lord gave to His disciples. May my prayer come to Thy holy temple and to the dwelling place of Thy glory; May my eyes be drained of sources of tears, and may You wash me with my own tears, whiten me with streams of my tears, cleansing me from the filth of passions. Blot out the handwriting of my falls, dispel the clouds of my sadness, darkness and confusion of thoughts, remove from me the storm and desire of passions, keep me in serenity and silence, expand my heart with spiritual expansion, rejoice and rejoice me with unspeakable joy, unceasing joy, so that in the right paths of the commandments I followed Thy Son faithfully and with a blameless conscience I lived an untroubled life. Give me, praying before You, pure prayer, so that with an undisturbed mind, unwandering meditation and with an insatiable soul, I may constantly study the words of the Divine Scriptures day and night, sing in confession, and in the joy of my heart bring prayer to the glory, honor and magnification of the only begotten Son. Yours and our Lord Jesus Christ. To Him belongs all glory, honor and worship, now, and always, and unto the ages of ages! Amen.

Prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos, St. Ephraim the Syrian

Virgin, Lady Theotokos, who, more than nature and word, gave birth to the only begotten Word of God, the Creator and Ruler of all visible and invisible creation, the One of the Trinity of God, God and Man, who became the abode of the Divine, the receptacle of all holiness and grace, in which, by the good pleasure of God and the Father , with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, the Fullness of the Divinity dwelt bodily; incomparably exalted by divine dignity and superior to every creature, Glory and Consolation, and the inexpressible joy of the Angels, the royal crown of the apostles and prophets, the supernatural and wonderful courage of the martyrs, the Champion of exploits and the Giver of victory, preparing for the ascetics crowns and eternal and divine rewards, honor and the glory of the saints, the infallible Guide and Teacher of silence, the door of revelations and spiritual secrets, the Source of Light, the gate eternal life, inexhaustible river of mercy, inexhaustible sea of all divine gifts and miracles, we ask and beseech You, most compassionate Mother of the philanthropic Master, be merciful to us, your humble and unworthy servants, look compassionately on our captivity and humility, heal the contrition of our souls and bodies, scatter visible and invisible enemies, be for us, unworthy, in the face of our enemies, a strong pillar, a battle weapon, a strong militia, a Commander and an invincible Champion, now show us Your ancient and wonderful mercies, so that our lawless enemies will know that Your Son and God is the only King and Master, that You are truly the Mother of God, who gave birth to the true God in the flesh, that everything is possible for You, and whatever You desire, Lady, You have the power to accomplish all this in Heaven and on earth, and to grant whatever is useful to anyone for every request: to the sick, to those who live on the sea, peace and good sailing. Travel and protect those who travel, save captives from bitter slavery, comfort the sad, alleviate poverty and any other bodily suffering: free everyone from mental ailments and passions, invisible by Your intercessions and suggestions, so that, having completed the path of this temporary life well and without stumbling, we may improve through You and these eternal blessings in the Kingdom of Heaven. Strengthen the faithful, honored by the terrible name of Your Only Begotten Son, who trust in Your intercession and in Your mercy and in everything who have You as their Intercessor and Champion, invisibly against the surrounding enemies, dispel the cloud of despondency that envelops their souls, deliver them from their spiritual situation and give them light complacency and joy, establishing peace and serenity in their hearts. With Your prayers, Lady, save this flock primarily dedicated to You, the entire city and country, from famine, earthquake, flood, fire, sword, invasion of foreigners, internecine warfare, and turn away every righteous wrath that has come against us, by the good will and grace of the only begotten Son and Your God, to Him is due all glory, honor and worship, with His Originless Father, with His Co-eternal and Life-giving Spirit, now and always, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Prayerful appeal to the Most Holy Theotokos, St. John of Kronstadt

Oh, Lady! Let it not be in vain and in vain that we call You the Lady: reveal and continually manifest over us Your holy, living, effective dominion. Reveal, for you can do everything for good, as the all-good Mother of the all-good King; disperse the darkness of our hearts, repel the arrows of crafty spirits, flatteringly driven towards us. May the peace of Thy Son, Thy peace reign in our hearts, and let us all ever joyfully exclaim: who is after the Lord, as our Lady, our all-good, all-powerful and most swift Intercessor? That is why you are exalted, Lady, that is why you have been given an indescribable abundance of divine grace, that is why ineffable boldness and strength at the throne of God and the gift of almighty prayer have been given to you, that is why you have been adorned with indescribable holiness and purity, that is why you have been given unapproachable power from the Lord, that You may preserve, protect, intercede, purify and save us, the inheritance of Your Son and God, and Yours. Save us, O Most Pure, All-Good, All-Wise and All-Powerful! For you are the Mother of our Savior, Who, of all names, was most pleased to be called Savior. It is common for us who wander in this life to fall, for we are covered with many-passionate flesh, surrounded by spirits of wickedness in high places, seducing us into sin, we live in an adulterous and sinful world, tempting us to sin; and You are above all sin, You are the most luminous Sun, You are the Most Pure, All-Good and All-Powerful, You tend to cleanse us, defiled by sins, like a mother cleanses her children, if we humbly call on You for help, You tend to raise us, who are constantly falling, to intercede , to protect and save us, those who are slandered from the spirits of evil, and to instruct us to march towards every path of salvation.

Prayer to Our Lady

What should I pray to You for, what should I ask of You? You see everything, you know it Yourself: look into my soul and give it what it needs. You, who have endured everything, overcome everything, will understand everything. You, who entwined the Baby in a manger and took Him with Your hands from the Cross, You alone know all the heights of joy, all the oppression of grief. You, who have received the entire human race as adoption, look at me with maternal care. From the snares of sin, lead me to Your Son. I see a tear watering Your face. It’s over me You shed it and let it wash away the traces of my sins. Here I have come, I am standing, I am waiting for Your response, O Mother of God, O All-Singing One, O Lady! I don’t ask for anything, I just stand before You. Only my heart, poor human heart, exhausted in longing for truth, I cast at Your Most Pure feet, Lady! Grant to all who call You to reach the eternal day by You and worship You face to face.

Theotokos rule

The Theotokos Rule is written for Orthodox Christians and marks fifteen major milestones in the earthly life of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Therefore the rule is divided into fifteen parts. The Monk Seraphim of Sarov blessed his spiritual children to read the rule 150 times a day in the Diveyevo Monastery. It is believed that in the cell of Seraphim of Sarov there was an old book with descriptions of miracles performed through the prayers of the Theotokos, Hail the Virgin Mary, the Rule of the Theotokos and other prayers. Reading the rule is an important part of spiritual life; this prayer helps to remember what a difficult spiritual path the Mother of God went through when she gave birth to our Savior Jesus Christ.

In Russian

With this prayer we glorify the Most Holy Theotokos.
Who are Cherubim and Seraphim?
Cherubim and Seraphim are the highest and closest angels to God. The Most Holy Virgin Mary, as having given birth to God in the flesh, is incomparably higher than them.
Who is God the Word?
God the Word is the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
Why is the Son of God called the Word?
The Son of God is called the Word (John 1:14) because, when He lived in the flesh on earth, He revealed, that is, showed us the invisible God the Father, just as our word reveals or shows the thought in our soul.

Note: There is a short prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary that we should say as often as possible.

Text and meaning

The text of the prayer is clearly divided into three parts. The first, as mentioned at the beginning, was spoken by the Archangel Gabriel. This is an appeal to the Virgin Mary and a warning about the coming birth of the baby Jesus.

The last, final part is very important. This is a symbol of the possibility of atonement for sins, for the very birth of Christ and his subsequent earthly life testify to this.

Virgin Mary, Rejoice, full of grace Mary, the Lord is with you, blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, for you have given birth to the Savior of our souls.

Translation:
Mother of God Virgin Mary, filled with the grace of God, rejoice! The Lord is with You; Blessed are You among women and blessed is the Fruit born of You, because You gave birth to the Savior of our souls.

One of the most frequently said prayers is the Song of the Theotokos or the prayer “O Virgin Mary, Rejoice,” consisting of laudatory and welcoming phrases taken from the Gospel.

Mother of God - gave birth to God.
Rejoice- a common form of greeting common in the East.
Blagodatnaya– who received special grace from God, mercy in that she gave birth to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race;
blessed are you among women– glorified among women;
and blessed is the fruit of your womb- Your Son is also glorified;
for you gave birth to the Savior of our souls- because You gave birth to the Savior of our souls.

This ancient prayer originates from the Gospel...
The Virgin Mary, who made a vow to devote her life to serving God, lived in the house of the righteous Joseph. One day, Archangel Gabriel appeared to her and informed the Virgin about the future birth of Jesus Christ:

“Gracious Mary, rejoice, the Lord is with you.”

At first Mary was afraid, but the Archangel reassured Her:

“Do not be afraid, you have earned the mercy of God: you will give birth to a Son and call Him Jesus. He will be called the Son of God."

“Blessed are You among women and blessed is the fruit of Your womb!”

These greetings were formed into the Song of the Mother of God, and a prayer was composed from them.

The important words of this prayer are “for you gave birth to the Savior of our souls.” They reveal the meaning of the earthly service of Mary, who was to give birth to our Lord Jesus Christ, so that He would atone for the sins of mankind with His Passion (Suffering) and His Blood.

The essence of this sacrifice was precisely the salvation of the human soul - people do not always remember this. In our prayers for God’s help, unfortunately, we more often hear requests for everyday needs, rather than for spiritual gifts. It is important not to forget about this, because the Mother of God You gave birth to the Savior of our souls
